Mt. Baldy Day Hike

(197 downloads)

Download this episode (25 min)
In this episode of Anthony's Audio Journal Dane and I do a winter hike to the summit of Mt. Baldy and hike across the Devil's Backbone. Located high atop the San Gabriel Mountains of the Angeles National Forest near Los Angeles California Mt. Baldy is the county high point at an elevation of 10,064 feet.

Dane and I make this day hike during an unusually low snowfall year and take the Sierra Club Ski Hut Trail from the Manker Flats parking area to the summit. From here we taverse the crest of the San Gabriel Mountains using the narrow Devil's Backbone and hike to the Mt. Baldy Ski Resort.

During this episode I talk about the trail conditions and the many people I met along the way.

Another good episode Anthony. I had a similar experience with other hikers on the trail crossing paths, except mine wasn't hazardous like yours. I foreign kid in his early twenties was coming my way, high up on a mountain in the alpine zone, where your not supposed to be stepping on the vegetation around and off the trail. He was in a hurry and instead of stepping aside to let me pass, or wait, he stomped hard-in an arch-going around me with a crunch-crunch-crunh right around me off the trail-right on the delicate creeping alpine vegitation! I stopped and kinda yelled at him in horror, thats when I knew he was foreign, he gave me a blank look.

Keep the episodes coming!
